The West Gwent Community Cohesion Small Grant is available to community-based projects delivered within the Caerphilly, Blaenau Gwent or Torfaen boroughs.

Community groups, third sector organisations and schools can all apply for up to £3000 to help initiate or support an existing community-based project.

All eligible projects should look to challenge discrimination, promote inclusion, and provide opportunities for people who might not ordinarily come together to meet and celebrate their culture or religion.

Friends of Morgan Jones Community Allotment acquired funding in 2023 . The volunteer group recognised that several of their volunteers were suffering with their health and mobility causing them to be unable to access crops growing on the ground which therefore negatively impacted on their integration into the group.

Support from funding allowed the group to work closely with community partners and local school, Ysgol Gyfun Cwm Rhymni to build raised beds to enable a more inclusive environment for all.

A retired health visitor who is a part of the group explained, ‘I really appreciate what is being done for anyone who struggles with any type of issue affecting mobility. In my time, I have seen how folks have struggled as a result and how the quality of life has been impacted. Now I am one such person, the installation of raised beds for vegetable growing has delighted me’.

The closing date for small grant scheme applications is Friday 19 July 2024 and projects must be delivered by 31 January 2025. Click here to apply online.
