End of life charity celebrates vital volunteers across Wales

Dozens of volunteers who support the UK’s leading end of life charity were celebrated at events across Wales last week.

Marie Curie brought volunteers from all roles together at thank you events as part of the 40th Volunteers’ Week – from fundraising group members to retail volunteers, Companions and hospice supporters.

In Penarth, the charity held a thank you tea party at its Cardiff and the Vale Hospice on Bridgeman Road, with games and cakes – also welcoming two of its furry volunteers in Acer and Alfie, pet therapy dogs who visit once a month.

Meanwhile, in North Wales, staff welcomed volunteers to the Coed Pella council building to mark the week with more celebrations with the Mayor of Colwyn Bay, Cllr Ricki Owen, in attendance.

West Glamorgan Dementia Companion volunteers were awarded the Health, Social Care and Wellbeing award at the Neath Port Talbot Council for Voluntary Service Annual Volunteering Awards.

Marie Curie Volunteering Business Partner, Lucy Kebell, said: “It was wonderful to see so many volunteers from different roles across the hospice, fundraising, Caring Services, Information and Support and Retail all get together and enjoy the celebration.

“I’m so grateful for all of the lovely touches our staff added to thank our incredible volunteers, including certificates of appreciation.

“Without our volunteers, we wouldn’t be able to support as many people as we do at end of life – so a huge thank you to anyone who gives any time to Marie Curie.”
