An opticians in Prestatyn has raised £2,057 for local causes by hosting a charity fundraiser to mark its 20-year anniversary.

Since it opened in 2004, Specsavers Prestatyn has provided high-quality eye care for optical and contact lens customers, growing from just six employees and two test rooms to four test rooms and a team of 23 dedicated members of staff.

To mark two decades in business, the store held a fundraiser in aid of two local causes – Chernobyl Children’s Lifeline North Wales and the Lily Foundation.

The event was held at the store on Saturday 12 October and involved a series of giveaways and raffles with more than 20 prizes donated by local businesses. Prizes included hampers, signed Everton FC memorabilia, pantomime tickets and gift vouchers.

Staff also hosted a colouring competition for the younger customers and presented the winner with a gift hamper and teddy bear.

The money raised for Chernobyl Children’s Lifeline North Wales will enable the charity to continue providing respite for children from Ukraine suffering the devastating effects of the Chernobyl disaster, while funds for the Lily Foundation will help the charity continue its research into mitochondrial disease.

Martyn Foss, optometrist director at the store, says: ‘We are blown away by the support from the local community who helped us to surpass our fundraising target and raise more than £2,000 for two causes very close to our hearts. What an amazing way to celebrate 20 years of Specsavers Prestatyn.

‘Without the local community and our talented team, we wouldn’t have been able to reach such a major milestone so are very thankful to everyone who has helped the store become what it is today. We look forward to serving the local community for many more years to come.’

Sharon Smart, who is part of the store’s management team and one of the first members of staff to begin working at the store 20 years ago, comments: ‘It was wonderful to be joined by so many people from the local community who helped us celebrate the store’s major milestone. Having joined the team here two decades ago, I am so proud of how it has grown.’

Sharon was presented with a certificate and gift hamper during Saturday’s celebration to mark her long service and commitment to Specsavers over the years.
