Denbighshire County Council are warning residents of a scam circulating the county where they receive texts about potential winter fuel payments.

Recently, the Council have been made aware of a scam that has been targeting residents claiming they are entitled to receive winter fuel payments.

Recipients receiving these texts, are notified that they are entitled to winter fuel payments and are invited to provide more information by clicking a fraudulent link.

Denbighshire County Council would like to remind residents to think twice before responding to any suspicious text messages from unknown numbers and report any suspicious contact from unknown numbers.

Councillor Gwyneth Ellis, Lead Member for Finance, Performance & Strategic Assets said:

“We have been made aware of residents receiving fraudulent texts claiming that the Council are offering winter fuel payments and that residents can access these benefits by clicking a fraudulent link.

“We would like to remind residents that the Council is not currently providing any winter fuel payments, and any correspondence they receive from ourselves will state clearly that it’s from Denbighshire County Council and have a clear link directing them to our website. We encourage our residents to think twice before responding to any similar messages from unknown numbers”.
