Councillors and Officers from Denbighshire County Council were delighted to attend the official opening of the new police station in Prestatyn on Monday, 18 November.

The new station, which is based at Llys Llên, Denbighshire Housing’s latest development on Nant Hall Road, will be the new base for response officers and the Neighbourhood Policing Team in Prestatyn.

North Wales Police have agreed terms with Denbighshire County Council for a 15-year lease at Llys Llên which also comprises 14 one bedroomed energy efficient apartments on the upper floors and another commercial space on the ground level.

Councillor Rhys Thomas, Lead Member for Housing and Communities at Denbighshire County Council said, “I’m very pleased that we’ve been able to work closely with Chief Constable Amanda Blakeman of North Wales Police, the North Wales Police and Crime Commissioner, Andy Dunbobbin and North Wales Police’s local policing team to secure this new community police station in the centre of Prestatyn. The location of this development ensures there will be a link between the retail park and the town’s high street. It’s a great result for the people of Prestatyn to have a new police station at the centre of the community.”

Llys Llên stands on the site of the old library which has been comprehensively re-developed by Denbighshire Housing to provide new apartments for over 55s which will help towards meeting Prestatyn’s housing needs. North Wales Police have taken one of the non-residential retail units on the ground floor. Both patrol and neighbourhood policing officers will be based in Prestatyn.

Councillor Thomas went on to say; “Prestatyn is a thriving town with a population which increases significantly during the summer months. It’s important that the local community feels supported by appropriate neighbourhood policing in the town and I am extremely pleased that we have been able to help North Wales Police deliver on this.

“The first tenants have already moved into the new flats in Llys Llên and we’re pleased to hear they’re very happy with their new homes. The Council hopes to host a welcome event in the new year once everyone has settled in.”

In May 2023, Members backed a motion in Council to work towards a permanent police presence in Prestatyn following concerns among the community that this support had been relocated to St Asaph Business Park leaving no police facilities in the town.

Councillor Jason McLellan, Leader of Denbighshire County Council said, “Several Members have been working hard behind the scenes for some time to bring police presence back to Prestatyn. One of those who put in a great deal of effort into making sure that this was achieved was the late Councillor Pete Prendergast, who was the Council’s representative on the Police Authority Board along with the Lead Member for Housing and Communities, Councillor Rhys Thomas and the North Wales Police and Crime Commissioner, Andy Dunbobbin.

“This positive move forward for police presence in Prestatyn is a fitting tribute to Councillor Prendergast’s commitment and hard work on this issue and I’d personally like to extend my thanks to everyone who worked on this initiative. Prestatyn is thriving and it’s important that the local community feels supported by appropriate neighbourhood policing in the town.”
