The local community and members of the public are being asked for their views on a proposed new bridge across the River Taff.
The proposed pedestrian and cycle bridge between the Marl in Grangetown and Hamadryad Park in Butetown supports the Council’s wider regeneration scheme to redevelop the Channel View estate.
The proposed bridge would provide an important connection for communities on both sides of the river to schools, parks, and leisure facilities, linking with the wider walking and cycling network, including the Cardiff Bay Trail and Ely Trail.
Having carried out consultation on the proposal in late 2022, a number of modifications have been made to the plan including moving the bridge’s location further south, allowing for separate lanes for pedestrians and cyclists and lighting added within handrails.
The Council is now almost ready to apply for planning permission for the bridge and is keen to hear again what people think about the amended plans in a Pre-Application Consultation (PAC) that begins on Monday, November 25.

A drop-in information session, where members of the public can chat to officers and air their opinions about the proposed bridge, will also take place at CF11 Fitness (formerly Channel View Leisure Centre) on Wednesday, December 4, 12pm – 6.30pm.
A council spokesperson said: “This is a very exciting scheme that would create much better connectivity between Butetown and Grangetown for pedestrians and cyclists. The bridge would be a landmark and an attraction in its own right and we’re keen to hear what people think of the latest plans before the planning application is submitted early next year.”
