ACCOMPLISHED charity fundraiser Lisa Buckley is the new Head of Income Generation for the Welsh cancer research charity – Cancer Research Wales.

Lisa has a long career in charity sector and in her last role was Head of Philanthropy at leading Welsh fundraising consultancy Richard Newton Consulting.

During this time, Lisa worked with various clients including the Welsh Government, Event Wales, Amgueddfa Cymru, Clwb Ifor Bach, the WCVA and Third Sector Support Wales.

Before that, she was Head of Supporter Engagement at the Royal Osteoporosis Society where Lisa was responsible for public fundraising and maximising supporter engagement, including a membership scheme of over 18,000 members.

Lisa Buckley, Cancer Research Wales’s new Head of Income Generation said:

“It’s such an exciting time to join Cancer Research Wales under the leadership of our new Chief Executive, Adam Fletcher. We have a new research strategy and ambitious plans for the next five years. In this role, I see a real opportunity to be part of an organisation that can make a difference to cancer outcomes, and I am energised to be a part of that.

“Unfortunately, like many people, cancer has had a devasting impact on my life, so this move is deeply meaningful and really connects with my personal values. There is huge ambition at Cancer Research Wales to fund more cancer research here in Wales and I am looking forward to building am ambitious and high performing team to ensure we can raise the funds to enable the charity to do that.”

Lisa was previously Head of Fundraising at Tenovus Cancer Care and has also lectured on fundraising to masters students at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama.

She started her fundraising career in 2001.

Welcoming Lisa Buckley to Cancer Research Wales, the charity’s Chief Executive Officer – Adam Fletcher, said:

“It’s my pleasure to welcome Lisa to the team at Cancer Research Wales. With one in two of us expected to develop cancer during our lifetimes, the work of Cancer Research Wales has never been more important, and this groundbreaking research is only made possible thanks to the support and goodwill of the people of Wales.

“Lisa comes to Cancer Research Wales as the cost of living crisis continues to bite hard. With dwindling funding opportunities for charities and competition for funds greater than ever, it’s a very challenging environment to operate in. I feel very lucky and reassured to have a fundraiser of Lisa’s calibre joining us as we continue to deliver hope for people affected by cancer today and transform the future for the cancer patients of tomorrow.”
