Businesses from across Blaenau Gwent came together for the launch of the Blaenau Gwent Tourism Ambassadors. The event took place during Wales Ambassador Week and Global Entrepreneurship Week 2024.

The scheme delivers free online training opportunity to enhance your knowledge of the tourism offer of the whole of Blaenau Gwent, its beautiful valleys, wild landscapes and fascinating industrial heritage. Ambassadors can learn online in just a few easy modules. You can learn at your own pace, at home or at your workplace. Each module consists of a series of video clips, images and text followed by a short quiz on the content.

For those taking the course it will deepen their local knowledge of the area enabling them to provide an even better customer experience. It will boost their confidence to share knowledge and information about Blaenau Gwent with others, gain new skills to add to their CVs and above all  celebrate and have pride and passion in our beautiful region.
For local businesses it offers a free ready-made staff induction programme, help with staff motivation and retention. It will increase loyalty and repeat visits and increase footfall, length of stay and visitor spend. It will enable staff to provide a unique and authentic experience to visitors and is a free and simple way to add value to their businesses while helping the region to develop and sustain our destination and boost Blaenau Gwent’s economy.

Cllr John Morgan, Cabinet Member – Place & Regeneration and Economic Development said, ‘When you become a Blaenau Gwent Ambassador you will play an important role in enriching the overall visitor experience. We hope that everyone supporting the visitor economy, from taxi drivers to café owners, hoteliers, guides, bar staff or museum curators will sign up and become a Tourism Ambassador for Blaenau Gwent. We also know how incredibly proud our community are of their area so we would like to see anyone who has a passion for their patch to join with us.’

Phill Sykes, Director of Aneurin Leisure and Chair of the Blaenau Gwent Destination Management Partnership said, ‘This is a fantastic opportunity to skill all of our tourism businesses so that our visitors get the most out of coming to Blaenau Gwent. We will explore using this great tool for staff inductions across our tourism sites  so that we can play our part in upselling this fantastic Borough. Aneurin Leisure are thrilled to be supporting this programme and look forward to seeing all our visitors, armed with better knowledge.’

If you would like to become a Blaenau Gwent Tourism Ambassador, sign up on the Ambassador Wales website and take the Blaenau Gwent course.
