A 49-year-old man has been jailed for more than two decades for serious sexual violence against a child.
Guy Lawrence Miles, of Palmerston Road, Bournemouth, who was convicted of three counts of rape and indecent assault, appeared before Caernarfon Crown Court yesterday (Thursday, December 12th) where he was sentenced to 22 years in prison.
Police launched an investigation into Miles in February 2021 following a report he had historically raped a child in the late nineties in Bangor.
Having groomed the victim, he went on to violently assault and abuse her over two years, leaving her too scared to defend herself or report him.
When she returned to the Bangor area as an adult some years later, Miles tracked her down and struck her from behind, knocking her unconscious to the floor before he was chased away by members of the public.
Miles must serve two-thirds of his sentence before being considered for release.
He was also handed an indefinite restraining order to protect the victim and a 30-year sexual harm prevention order.
Detective Constable Chris Renshaw said: “This was a horrific case where a vulnerable child was groomed by a much older man and subjected to the most terrible sexual violence over a prolonged period.
“I would like to thank her for her courage in reporting the offences and providing evidence in such incredibly difficult circumstances.
“I hope this case will encourage others who have been subject to sexual abuse to come forward, and be reassured their evidence will be heard, whilst serving as a reminder to any offenders of these despicable crimes that they will face the consequences of their actions – no matter how and when sexual abuse occurred.
“I hope the victim can find some comfort in today’s sentence and begin to move on with her life without any further fear.”
