A leading civil engineering firm’s determination to leave a legacy in communities in which they’ve worked has been underlined by a trio of sporting sponsorships.
Jones Bros Civil Engineering UK has backed two junior football teams in the shape of Panthers under-11s and Prestatyn Sports under-11s, as well as Rhyl Rugby Club under-9s.
This support links closely to the multi-million-pound coastal defence works in Penrhyn Bay in 2023 and current activity on a similar project in Kinmel Bay.
Penrhyn Bay-based Panthers u-11s received a £1,500 donation, which has been used to purchase training kit and a matchday tracksuit for all 12 players.
Remaining funds will be used to secure entry into competitions, which regularly take place across North Wales.
Grant Harris, head of design and construction management at Jones Bros, as well as a coach of Panthers u-11s, said: “These sponsorships will allow the company to leave an even bigger legacy in the area.
“We talk about helping the community when we undertake schemes throughout the UK, and that doesn’t just end when we finish a job.”
Ben Lobban, Chris Parry, and Grant form the coaching staff, all of whom have daughters playing for the Panthers as they compete with boys and girls in the region.
“There is a real family ethos amongst the team,” continued Grant. “It’s very much in keeping with Jones Bros and the values it holds dear.
“There is a real commitment to each other as well. It is not a case of having 12 players but chasing around each week to get a full complement, they are all available and ready to play.
“Having new training kit and matchday tracksuits has also helped with their mentality. Being able to turn up looking the part is a really big thing, and we are grateful for the support we’ve received from Jones Bros.”
It is a similar story for Prestatyn under-11s, who have secured new kit
featuring the Jones Bros logo that will be used by the 12-strong squad across the next two years in tournaments from Anglesey to the Wirral.
Team manager Daniel Mills, who is taking his squad, including his son, to Spain to compete in the Barcelona Cup in April 2025, said: “We can’t thank Jones Bros enough for the backing we’ve had.
“I was speaking to a friend of mine, Matthew Nicholson, who works at Jones Bros, after sponsorship fell through, and within a matter of days it was all sorted.
“A core of our group has been together for a few years now, and having some brilliant new kit only helps make it a great environment to play football.”
As well as £800 for Prestatyn u-11s, Jones Bros has helped Rhyl RFU u-9s with a £1,250 sponsorship, which has been used to purchase new training tops.
Jones Bros contracts manager Owain Evans said: “It’s wonderful to be able to provide things for the players, who feel a real sense of pride when they turn up in matching kit.
“Whoever we play, we really look the part, and the youngsters, of which my son is one, wear their tops with pleasure as they compete in North Wales and across the border in Cheshire.”
Established in the 1950s, Jones Bros owns one of the largest plant fleets in the UK and employs approximately 500 people.
The company is currently working on contracts in various sectors including highways, flood and marine defence, waste management and renewable energy around the UK.
The company continues to run apprenticeships with many of its senior managers having started out as apprentices or in a trainee role. It has recruited hundreds of apprentices over the years.
