A spring-cleaning litter pick was recently held along parts of the Rhyl Cut.
Denbighshire Countryside Services organised the event with support from Keep Wales Tidy as part of their Spring Clean Cymru campaign.
Countryside rangers and Keep Wales Cymru representatives were joined by Rhyl’s Brighter Futures group, the Phoenix centre, and the Willow collective to carry out the litter pick along the stretch running from Coleg Rhyl to the Rhyl Cut Coarse Fishing Lake.
Managed by Denbighshire Countryside Services, the stretch saw 85 bags of litter removed by the rangers and volunteers.
The rangers also took a small boat down the Rhyl Cut and recovered a number of tyres. Two supermarket trollies were also removed from the area.
Vitor Evora Countryside Ranger said: “It was great to have the support to help tidy up this section of the Rhyl Cut that’s managed by Denbighshire Countryside Services. This is an important asset for the town, it does support our local nature and we want to work to keep it as litter free as possible.
Cllr Barry Mellor, Lead Member for Environment and Transport, added: “I’d like to thank all who made the time to come and support this litter pick. The Rhyl Cut is an historical feature for the town, it has importance for supporting wildlife and this section is an area the local community can walk and enjoy.
“Please remember that littering and also fly-tipping is a form of anti-social of behaviour and a criminal offence, that has a negative impact on the quality of life for local residents and wildlife and I would appeal to the communities around Rhyl Cut to be vigilant against this type of behaviour.”
