local developer has helped a Swansea county rugby club with their roof fund.

Persimmon Homes West Wales has donated £1,000 to Pontarddulais RFC as part of the five-star housebuilder’s Community Champions scheme.

Persimmon had previously donated £2,000 to “The Bont” last year as part of a long-term partnership with the local rugby club, and is now lending a helping hand once again as the clubhouse needs a roof repair following years of wear and tear. The plans also will see the addition of solar panels to improve the day to day running costs of the club into the future.

Established in 1881, the club has two senior teams, a women’s team, a youth team, and eleven junior sides. Their first men’s team play in the WRU Men’s Admiral National Leagues.

Persimmon Homes currently has an application for bringing over 500 high-quality, much-needed, zero-carbon ready homes to the town, which is currently with Swansea Council for determination.

The plans include a primary school, a community building, housing association properties, parks, playing fields, and financial contributions to outdoor sports and public transport improvements in the area.

The five-star developer donates £48,000 to good causes and much-valued organisations across Wales each year. The housebuilder has also recently supported Pontarddulais Cricket Club and the Pontarddulais Agricultural Show.

Commenting, Persimmon Homes West Wales’ sales director, Sharon Bouhali, said:

“Persimmon has exciting plans in Pontarddulais, so I am delighted we have been able to support a strong local institution like the rugby club once more.

“Were Persimmon successful in bringing new homes to meet housing need in the town, we’d want future players and fans from the development to enjoy the club facilities, which is why we are more than happy to help with its clubhouse roof fund.”

Huw Thomas – Director, Secretary and Club Operations Manager, Pontarddulais RFC – said:

“Persimmon has shown itself to be a strong partner for Pontarddulais RFC, not only through our initial partnership but, offering to lend a helping hand with our roof fund too.

“The general repairs to the roof, as well as the addition of solar panels to reduce our day to day running costs are hugely important for the future of our club, so Persimmon’s help is much appreciated and will be a big boost to the community in the town.”
