A leading education consultancy is celebrating a decade in business, having supported thousands of teachers across Wales and beyond to improve their practice and make an impact in the classroom.

Impact Wales, based in Caerphilly, provides professional learning support for schools and teachers, including bespoke training sessions and resources.

The business was founded in 2015 by former teachers Finola Wilson and Jane Miller, who have more than 40 years of combined experience in teaching and education.

They have since worked with more than 300 schools, delivered training sessions to thousands of teachers and produced professional resources that have been used in thousands of educational settings across the world.

Five years ago, they launched the Impact Podcast, and have so far released more than 200 episodes exploring education reform, curriculum design, and effective pedagogy.

Finola Wilson, Director of Impact Wales, said: “When we started Impact Wales, we wanted to help teachers to improve their professional learning. We’re proud to have become a trusted partner to many schools over the last decade. We’ve seen many changes in education during that time, but what has remained constant is the professionalism of teachers and their desire to improve their practice to make a real difference to pupils.”

Much of Impact Wales’ work over the last five years has focused on supporting schools to implement Curriculum for Wales, one of the biggest reforms in education in Wales in a generation. Their work has won them plaudits from many educators.

Julian Littler, headteacher of Stebonheath Primary School in Llanelli, said: “Fin and Jane really understand what schools need to know regarding learning, and the work they have produced on Curriculum for Wales is excellent.”

Ceri Richmond, headteacher Dwr-y-Felin Comprehensive School in Neath, worked with Impact in her previous school, Morriston Comprehensive. She said: “Every time Fin or Jane speak, they have a superpower of cutting through the white noise and getting to the heart of the matter. The training led to improvements in pedagogical understanding and informed future planning.”

Finola Wilson added: “Education in Wales is currently facing many significant challenges, from school funding and teacher recruitment to standards and results. We look forward to continuing to partner with schools to help them navigate these challenges by using our knowledge and experience to support their strategic direction.”
