Leading partnerships developer Lovell has hosted its 30th annual charity golf day in Cardiff and raised a total of £14,550, which will be split equally between three local charities.
The event was held at Whitchurch Golf Club, near the developer’s regional head office, and saw 26 teams of employees, subcontractors, partners and consultants tee off in the morning and compete for prizes throughout the day.
A charity auction was then held, consisting of prizes donated by Lovell clients, subcontractors and its supply chain. The auction was hosted by Welsh actor and writer Steve Speirs, who also gave a speech to round off the day.
Over the past 29 years, the Lovell golf day has raised more than £137,000 for charities across Wales. Following this year’s event, the total has been taken to over £151,550.
This year, the chosen charities are Llamau, Maggie’s and Young Lives vs Cancer Cymru.
Llamau is a leading charity in Wales supporting homeless young people and women affected by domestic abuse. The charity assists those in need by offering them safe accommodation and support to develop the necessary skills and confidence to live independently and get back into education, access training or gain employment. The charity supports more than 10,000 people annually through a wide range of support services.
Maggie’s offers free, professional support to people with cancer and their families, and has centres across the UK where individuals can seek help on anything from treatment side effects to finances and join groups and classes. In South Wales, the charity’s centres can be found in Whitchurch, Cardiff and Swansea.
Young Lives vs Cancer is a national charity helping children and young people diagnosed with cancer. The charity assists patients and their families by offering a range of support services, financial grants and free places called Homes from Home where families can stay while their child is going through treatment.
“To have raised over £151,550 at our golf days over the last three decades is a huge accomplishment and something we are incredibly proud of. We understand the role we play in the community, providing not just new homes but offering support to local people and charities wherever possible, and are always on the lookout for more ways in which we can make a real difference.”
Rachael Davies, Fundraising Manager at Maggie’s, added: “A huge thank you to Lovell from all of us at Maggie’s for choosing us as one of the benefitting charities of the golf day this year. We are so grateful to be part of such a wonderful event that not only raises much needed funds but has also raised awareness of Maggie’s in our local community. Every penny donated directly supports people living with cancer and their family and friends in South Wales. Thank you.”
“With the help of Lovell’s generous donation from this fantastic event, we are able to support another 40 children, young people and their families here in Wales. We can give the immediate financial grant that they so desperately need. A huge thank you to Lovell and to all that took part and donated on the day. We are powered by the kindness of our supporters.”
