People will be empowered to revitalise their high streets, create new spaces for young people, save treasured local pubs and to breathe new life into communities across Wales.
Prime Minister Keir Starmer will later today unveil the Pride in Place programme – an unprecedented programme backed by record funding – that lets local people have a say on where and how money is spent in their communities, restoring pride in the places that matter to them.
This is about choosing a future where communities can come together, rather than be divided, and where renewal is chosen over decline. The UK Government is delivering lasting change working people will feel all over Wales.
Secretary of State for Wales Jo Stevens said:
“All around Wales there are communities which will benefit from the Pride in Place programme.
“This investment will deliver real change for local people, giving them a say in how funding is spent on improving the things that matter to them.”
Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government Steve Reed said:
“When people step out of their front doors, they should be proud of where they live. Where they know their communities are struggling, we want to invest and empower them to make changes.
“Yes, communities have been stretched – but they haven’t given up. They’re working hard to make things better, and we’re backing them.”
The UK-wide Pride in Place programme – which will be unveiled by the Prime Minister later today – will deliver a record investment and support over 330 communities across the UK.
In Wales it will add to and compliment the regeneration being delivered by the Welsh Government through the Transforming Towns fund, Tidy Towns and Placemaking initiatives.
