Swansea Council is surging ahead with its work to upgrade roads across the city.

Highways teams have completed the resurfacing a main route into North Gower (B4295) between Llanmorlais and Llanrhidian.

The resurfacing work will see nearly three kilometres of road resurfaced with the upgrade being completed overnight to avoid major disruption for motorists.

The road improvements also follow on from similar work completed in the summer along the same road with 2.4kms of resurfacing being Penclawdd and Llanmorlais and a further 2.6kms completed between Llanrhidian and Oldwalls.

Andrew Stevens, Cabinet Member for Environment and Infrastructure, said: “The road through Penclawdd towards Llanrhidian is very popular with residents and tourists visiting Gower. We need to ensure the route is maintained and is safe for everyone.

“The latest works will mean that this route has benefitted from nearly 8kms of surface improvements.

“We’re completing the upgrade overnight to avoid causing disruption for motorists travelling through the area.”

Once completed, the council’s highways improvement teams will move on to further major road schemes at Mill Street in Gowerton and Birchgrove Road in Birchgrove.

Both schemes will require road closures during the works and the council is ensuring the work is carried out overnight to reduce disruption for residents in both communities.

The council published details of roads in Swansea it would be upgrading during the twelve months from March 2025. All the works are part of the council’s multi-million pound investment into highways infrastructure.

Cllr Stevens added: “Our highway improvement plans for 2025/26 include significant upgrades to well used, popular sections of road throughout the city.

“The roads earmarked for full resurfacing schemes have been prioritised based on regular highway inspections and have been assessed as needing repairs during the next twelve months.

“In most cases, much of the works will be completed during the evenings so that we minimise disruption for the travelling public.”
