    This week, contractors working on behalf of Swansea Council plan to install important new road safety features on Mumbles Road, in Mumbles.

    Four new raised areas – each with improved pedestrian access – are being created:

    • near the George restaurant;
    • near The Carlton Hotel;
    • near Village Lane; and
    • at the entrance to Oystermouth Car Park.

    Crossings will be level access with the footpaths and the expectation is that car speeds will reduce.

    It’ll help pedestrians safely access the new-look prom, businesses, organisations, events and homes.

    To help contractors undertake the work, there’ll be a road diversion each night – 8pm-6am – from this Monday, Oct 6, to Thursday.

    At those times there’ll be no Mumbles Road through traffic in either direction between the White Rose at the Newton Road junction and Knab Rock Car Park (which remains open).

    The alternative route for road traffic, including buses, will be signposted; it’ll include Newton Road, the B4593 Langland Road, Higher Lane, New Villas, Plunch Lane and Mumbles Road to the south-east of Verdi’s.

    Access will remain for emergency vehicles, residents and local business people.

    Marshalls will be on site to offer help and guidance to all, including those wishing to visit local businesses.
