The Silver Mountain Experience, one of Mid Wales’ top visitor attractions, is opening for the winter for the first time.

Based in Ponterwyd, on the mountain road between Llanidloes and Aberystwyth, the attraction is open throughout the winter, seven days a week from 10am to 4pm, except for a short spell between December 24 and January 18, 2019.

The attraction is normally closed for the winter, except for its special Christmas activities.

A selection of surface attractions and the Mining Museum will be open for visitors to explore, but guided tours are not operating through the winter period unless pre-arranged by groups. Visits are available from £3 to £5 and the attraction is dog-friendly.

Visitors can explore the Miners Trail and nature trails, have a go at the Kindlings Quest quiz and much more. The attraction’s cafe will be serving a selection of hot food and drinks, while the gift shop has an array of unique and interesting items, including gifts for children and everything from dragons to mining figures on minerals.

Pre-booked group visits are available throughout the winter season, including underground tours. The Silver Mountain Experience is asking groups to make contact on email to [email protected] or by calling 01970 890620.

The attraction promises something for everyone to enjoy this Christmas, including an Elves’ Workshop and Santa’s Grotto. The Christmas activities are planned for December 15, 16, 22 and 23, but groups can pre-book a visit outside of these dates.

As well as exploring the beautifully preserved Victorian silver mine with its stunning backdrop and fascinating history, visitors can enjoy a host of festive season themed activities, such as the Christmas quiz trail and cookie decorating. Based at the beautifully preserved Llywernog silver-lead ore mine, the attraction is proud of its Welsh mining heritage.
