A 31-year-old man has today been found guilty of the manslaughter of John Ithell.

Paul Ince, of Cefn Road, Abenbury, Wrexham, denied killing the 59-year-old from Wrexham, but a jury last week (Friday 17 October) found him guilty of manslaughter following an eight-day trial at Mold Crown Court.

In the early hours of June 12, 2023, Ince punched John to the face in an unprovoked attack outside a block of flats in Pont Wen, Wrexham.

John fell backwards into a fence and hit his head on the concrete floor which caused a severe head injury.

He sadly died later that same day, just hours after the assault.

Ince will be sentenced at Mold Crown Court on Tuesday 18th November.

Detective Constable Katie Doyle said: “Our heartfelt condolences remain with John Ithell’s family today at the conclusion of this trial.

“No result can compensate for the loss of life and the grief that has been caused, but I hope Ince’s conviction can bring some closure to John’s family as they continue to come to terms with their tragic loss.”
