Swansea man jailed after found asleep in car filled with drugs

A man from Swansea has been jailed after he was found sleeping in a car full of illegal drugs.

34-year-old Jason Grove, from Clase, was arrested in June as officers attended a report that he was intoxicated while asleep in the driver’s seat of his vehicle. Upon searching Grove and his vehicle, quantities of Class A drugs (heroin), two mobile phones, scales, foil and other drug paraphernalia were found. Also found in the car was a lock knife.

Grove later confessed during interview to possession of amphetamine for personal use. However, he denied having any involvement in the sale of drugs, but would later plead guilty to possession of heroin and amphetamine and possession with intent to supply diamorphine.

He also pleaded guilty to possessing a sharp/pointed article in a public place.

He has been sentenced to 30 months in prison.

Detective Constable Samuel Tobin said: “It is clear that Jason Grove had a significant quantity of illegal drugs in his possession which he intended to sell to other drug users.

“Jason was yet another cog in the drug trade wheel which blights our towns and cities. The damage these drug dealers do to our communities is immeasurable, and they are solely motivated by their own financial greed, and care nothing for the welfare of those they sell the drugs to.

“At South Wales Police we will arrest anyone involved in this illegal activity and bring them to justice.

“Grove was also found in possession of a lock knife. With this week being Operation Sceptre Intensification Week, our officers will again take the opportunity not only to carry out enforcement activity against those carrying knives in public; they will also be out educating the public and sharing wider awareness of knife crime.

“Still, too many people carry knives. Our officers and community leaders continue to reach out to those who can be positively influenced to steer them away from carrying knives.”
