As online retailers gear up for their busiest time of year, this is the view insider Amazon’s fulfilment centre based in Swansea, as workers gear up for Black Friday and Christmas.

The Amazon fulfilment centre in Swansea, which opened in 2007, is one of 17 in the UK and employs a permanent staff of 1200 employees.

An additional 1000 seasonal employees will be recruited to help with the Christmas rush.

Fulfilment operators can expect to earn £9.50 per hour (days) to £11.25 per hour (nights), with
overtime rates between £14.25 per hour to £19.00 per hour.

All employees at Amazon in Swansea are an essential part of the process.

Immediately after you press the ‘buy button’ on Amazon, a series of computerised algorithms set in motion a pretty slick operation that will see your items picked, grouped and packed ready for shipment.

Your items travelling along a vast network of conveyor-belts to the next step in the process.

The site in Swansea is over 800,000 square foot, equivalent in size to 11 football pitches.

The company was founded by Jeff Bezos in 1994 and reached a market cap of $1 trillion in September.
