Swansea Council is seeking views from residents for the installation of secure cycle storage units across the city.
Using grant funding from the Welsh Government Active Travel Fund, the council is looking to install a number of cycle hangars is residential areas, where there is the most need.
The innovative and secure ‘Cyclehoop’ bike hangars are already being used in other parts of the UK and provide an alternative option for cyclists who struggle with finding storage space in their home.
Each bike hangar is made out of solid steel and can house up to six bikes. Residents will be able to sign up and rent a space for their bike.
A consultation has now started and residents in the city can take part between now and 25 January 2026.
Andrew Stevens, Cabinet Member for Environment and Infrastructure, said: “Cyclehoop hangars are already being rolled out across the UK, and we’re excited to bring them to Swansea to support local communities.
“Our aim is to install them in densely populated residential areas where space for bike storage is limited.
“To ensure we install them where they are most needed, we need the public to get in touch and tell us where they want them to go.
“There may also be residents in the city who have been put off from purchasing a bike in the past due to lack of storage at their home. Hopefully, this new initiative may give residents a reason to acquire a bike and know they now have somewhere secure they can store it.”
