Terrace Road Primary School has been commended by Estyn for creating a happy, caring, and inclusive community where pupils feel safe, valued, and happy to learn.
Inspectors found that nearly all pupils engage well in lessons and develop positive attitudes to learning. Most make good progress from their individual starting points, including those with additional learning needs and pupils learning English as an additional language. This was highlighted as a notable strength.
The report praises the school’s commitment to equality and diversity, which is embedded across the curriculum and supported by initiatives such as the ‘Windows and Mirrors’ library. It states: “The school embeds values of compassion and kindness, helping pupils develop a strong sense of social responsibility.”
Pupils also benefit from a broad and balanced curriculum that provides authentic and stimulating learning experiences, helping them make strong progress in literacy, numeracy, and digital skills.
Teaching across the school is described as generally strong, with teachers setting high expectations and using effective questioning to deepen understanding. Support staff play a vital role in meeting pupils’ needs, ensuring that most make strong progress.
Inspectors noted the school’s provision for well-being and care as a significant strength. Leaders and staff work closely with families to create a safe and supportive environment. They said the school’s vision, ‘United Through Learning’, is evident in its inclusive culture and strong relationships with pupils and parents.
The leadership of headteacher Alison Evans was praised for providing clear strategic direction and fostering a strong team ethos among staff. Governors and leaders were recognised for robust self-evaluation and effective planning for improvement.
Ms Evans said: “All our staff, pupils and their families should be really proud of this report which reflects their work every day to make Terrace Road the happy and caring school that inspectors have praised.”
Swansea Council’s Cabinet Member for Education, Robert Smith, said: “I’d like to add my congratulations to everyone at the school for a very positive inspection report.”
