More than 230 cannabis plants have been discovered at a property in Cathays, Cardiff, following a police investigation.
South Wales Police officers attended an address on Cathays Terrace after receiving information that the property was being used as a cannabis factory. During a search of the house, officers found a large cannabis grow and arrested a man who was located in the attic.
The plants were seized and destroyed, and the property was made safe.
Fatjon Cota, 32, of no fixed abode, appeared at Cardiff Magistrates’ Court on Monday January 5, where he pleaded guilty to producing a controlled drug. He has been remanded in custody and is due to appear at court again next month.
Police have warned that cannabis production is far from a victimless crime. They say cannabis factories are often linked to serious and organised crime, including people trafficking, which can cause significant harm to local communities and fund further criminal activity.
Cannabis grows also pose a serious fire risk due to unsafe electrical alterations, putting neighbouring properties at risk.
South Wales Police are urging residents to report any concerns about suspected drug activity. Information can be passed to police online, by calling 101, or by dialling 999 in an emergency.
