Work to create a new street plaza-style facility for skateboarding and other wheeled sports at Swansea’s Victoria Park is expected to be finished by the end of March this year.
Early activity has now begun on site, following the appointment of a specialist contractor to deliver the project.
It’s part of a £3m Swansea Council investment in wheeled sports across the city.
The existing skate park area at Victoria Park is now closed while the works are being carried out. If possible, the mini ramp there will be retained and relocated.
The scheme has been designed with support from Curve Studio, whose expertise has helped shape council plans that aim to ensure most residents across the city are within two miles of a new or upgraded wheeled sports facility.
Specialist contractor Wheelscape is carrying out the work at Victoria Park.

Cllr Andrew Stevens, Swansea Council’s Cabinet Member for Environment and Infrastructure, said the Victoria Park project demonstrates the council’s ongoing commitment to high-quality facilities.
He said: “This investment is about giving people of all ages more chances to be active, build skills and enjoy safe, modern spaces close to where they live.
“With work now starting at Victoria Park, alongside improvements that are complete, under way or planned elsewhere, we’re building a network of skate, BMX and wheeled sports facilities across Swansea.
“These projects show the value of working closely with communities and specialist designers to deliver facilities that reflect what users have asked for and will serve local areas well into the future.”
Contracts have also recently been awarded for skate park upgrades at Mynydd Newydd in Penlan and the Phoenix Centre in Townhill, with work on those sites due to start in the coming weeks.
Recent projects include major improvements at Coed Bach in Pontarddulais and Melin Mynach in Gorseinon, both also delivered by Wheelscape.
Further schemes being developed include a small cycling facility in Blaenymaes, a new pump track in Bishopston, refurbishment of the existing pump track at Clyne Valley, and a junior pump track in Gorseinon.
