Two men from Tonypandy have been jailed after pleading guilty to a number of offences, including assault.

Kian Davies, 20 from Tonypandy pleaded guilty to robbery, assault, possession of an offensive weapon in a public place and attempted robbery.

Shay Jones, 21 from Tonypandy pleaded guilty to robbery, attempted robbery, and assault.

There were multiple incidents that happened over a period of three days, the first incident happened on August 7,2025, where Davies hit the victim over the side of the head with a hammer whilst they were sat on a bench, Davies continued to hit the victim over the head and shoulders, forcing him to give Davies his phone and small bag. Jones, who was also at the scene, threatened the victim before taking his belongings.

The second incident happened on Friday August 8, where Davies and Jones turned up at an address in Pentre, when the victim opened the door, Davies and Jones barged their way in demanding money from the victim and threatening them at knife point.

The third incident happened on Saturday August 9, where Davies and Jones told the victim they had a bike that they were willing to sell. When the victim turned up with the money, there was no bike and Davies attempted to stab the victim several times before the victim managed to get away.

The pair were sentenced when they appeared before Cardiff Crown Court on Monday February 9.

Davies was sentenced to five years and one month in a youth offenders institute and given a 10-year restraining order.

Jones was sentenced to four years and three months in prison.

Detective Constable Owain Hembury said“Nobody should have to walk our streets in fear of thugs like Kian Davies and Shay Jones.

“Their assault of the victim, and then two attempted robberies were cowardly and completely unacceptable.

“The fact that they thought this was a crime they would get away with speaks volumes for their poor character. Prison is the right place for them.”
