    Police shut down drug lines and seize weapons in major operation

    A week of intensification tackling drug-related crime has seen over 70 people arrested across the South Wales Police force area.

    The force’s enhanced activity, as part of the national County Lines Intensification Week, saw people arrested and charged, along with seizures of class A and B drugs, knives and cash.

    Organised Crime, Intelligence, and Exploitation teams worked together across south Wales to on operations aimed at safeguarding victims of exploitation, identifying and arresting those selling drugs in our communities, and closing drugs lines across the force area.

    Neighbourhood teams also spent time in the community dedicated to spreading awareness of the risks and tactics used to exploit the vulnerable into moving their drugs for them, and patrolling areas linked to County Lines activity.

    The intensification between 2-8 March results included:

    • 77 arrests
    • 8 drug lines seized and closed
    • 55 people safeguarded, including 41 people under 18
    • 580g of crack seized
    • 455g of heroin seized
    • 3806g of cocaine seized
    • 760g of cannabis resin seized
    • 3140g of cannabis bud seized
    • £66,572 of cash seized
    • 11 imitation firearms seized
    • 7 bladed weapons seized
    • 64 mobiles linked to drug activity seized
    Cannabis and cannabis vapes seized during a vehicle stop in Merthyr.

    Detective Superintendent Matthew Cox said:“At South Wales Police we are committed in our efforts to tackle drug supply in our communities, finding those accountable, and safeguarding those who have been exploited for the benefit of others.

    “This week of intensification, in collaboration with working with neighbouring police forces and partners resulted in the dismantling of many criminal enterprises and the seizure of drugs, weapons, and cash linked to illegal activity.

    “I want to reassure the public however that efforts to tackle this type of crime continues around the clock, with our teams dedicated to detecting and disrupting all criminality and exploitation linked to the supply of drugs.”
