A new Hospice Care Fund has been launched by Nightingale House Hospice to help safeguard its vital services amid rising running costs and a significant increase in patient referrals. The campaign will provide sustainable funding to meet growing demand while maintaining the high standard of specialist care local families rely on.

The Hospice Care Fund will support the care that surrounds every patient, from expert pain and symptom management to wellbeing services, complementary therapies, specialist equipment, welcoming spaces and the small personal touches that make a profound difference during the most difficult times.

Dr Adrian, Medical Director at Nightingale House Hospice, emphasised how vital the new fund will be in sustaining high quality care:

“People come to us during some of the most challenging moments of their lives, often facing pain, uncertainty and fear.

“Our role is not only to manage symptoms, but to help people feel safe, supported and truly seen.

“The Hospice Care Fund makes that possible. It ensures we have the right environment, resources and people in place to provide compassionate, patient-centred care every single day.”

For many patients, hospice care is about living as well as possible, for as long as possible. Angie Jones, who was referred to Nightingale House in 2021 following a cancer diagnosis, shared how her perception of hospice care changed completely.

Angie said: “When I first heard the word ‘hospice’, I was afraid. Like many people, I thought it was only somewhere you went at the very end of life, but I couldn’t have been more wrong.

“With physiotherapy, hydrotherapy and the Wellbeing Programme, I slowly regained my mobility. More than that, I found a place where I could talk openly, feel understood and not so alone.

“Today, I think of Nightingale House Hospice as my safety net, somewhere that supports you to live as well as you can, for as long as you can.”

As a charity, Nightingale House Hospice relies heavily on the generosity of its community to continue providing specialist palliative and end of life care, free of charge to patients and their families across Wrexham, Flintshire, East Denbighshire, Barmouth and the border towns including Oswestry and Whitchurch. Just £60 could pay for delicious meals for a patient attending the 12-week Wellbeing Programme at Nightingale House, which is why the kindness, donations and fundraising efforts of local people are so important in ensuring care can continue to be there for everyone who needs it.

The Hospice Care Fund gives local people a simple way to support the hospice services they rely on, now and in the future.
