New secure cycle storage has begun appearing across Cardiff city centre, as part of a wider rollout aimed at making it easier and safer for people to get around by bike.

Cardiff Council has confirmed that dozens of new BikeDok lockers are being installed, with 36 units now being placed at key locations across the city centre.

Cyclists will soon spot the new lockers at sites including National Museum Cardiff, Queen Street, Park Place, Hills Street, Central Library Cardiff and St Mary Street, with six lockers installed at each location.

The move forms part of a second phase of secure cycle parking across the capital, with a total of 50 new lockers set to be in place by the end of April. Alongside the city centre rollout, additional units are also being installed at sites including Victoria Park in Canton, Turning Head Car Park in Riverside, and the Albany Road and Wellfield Road junction in Plasnewydd.

The lockers are designed to offer cyclists a secure and convenient place to store their bikes, with access managed through the BikeDok app. Pricing starts from £1.50 per day, £7.50 per week or £20 per month, providing flexible options for regular commuters and occasional riders.

Each unit is solar powered, helping to reduce both running costs and carbon emissions, while also supporting Cardiff’s wider sustainability ambitions.

Security has also been a key focus, with the lockers achieving the highest Sold Secure rating available in the UK, offering added reassurance for users leaving bikes in the city.

Free to use steel cycle stands will continue to be available across Cardiff, ensuring a mix of options for cyclists.

The introduction of the new lockers is expected to further support cycling in the capital, particularly in busy city centre areas where secure parking has often been limited.
