Residents and visitors in Swansea are being urged to plan ahead this weekend as thousands of cyclists are expected to pass through the city as part of a major charity ride.

CARTEN100 will take place on Saturday, May 9, with around 2,400 participantsSwansea Council issues travel advice ahead of charity cycle ride travelling along a Cardiff to West Wales route.

Although not organised by Swansea Council, the local authority has issued a travel advisory to help people prepare for increased activity across key routes.

Cyclists are expected to travel through the city between approximately 8.30am and 1.30pm, following parts of National Cycle Network Route 4. This includes sections along Swansea Prom, with the route entering the city via Briton Ferry and leaving over Loughor Bridge.

While riders will be spread out over several hours, some cycle paths and nearby roads are expected to be busier than usual.

Swansea Council has advised that cycle paths along the route, including the promenade, could see significant congestion. There may also be increased cyclist numbers in areas such as Fabian Way, Swansea Bay and Mumbles Road.

Motorists and pedestrians are being asked to take extra care, and those travelling through affected areas are encouraged to allow additional time for their journeys.

Further details about the ride can be found on the organiser’s website.
