The project, being delivered through the Cardiff Living partnership between Cardiff Council and Wates Group, will provide 44 new low-carbon council apartments alongside a fully integrated transport hub.
Located on the former recycling centre site near Waun-Gron Park railway station, the development will include a mix of one and two-bedroom homes available for social rent, as well as office and commercial space.
The scheme has been designed to improve transport connections across the city, with a new access road linking the train station to a purpose-built bus interchange. The hub is expected to support up to 40 bus movements per hour, helping residents travel between different parts of Cardiff without needing to pass through the city centre.
Routes will connect west to south, north to south, and west to east across the capital, while the development will also encourage more journeys by foot and bike.
According to Cardiff Council, the homes are being built to high energy-efficiency standards and will feature ground source heat pumps and solar panels designed to exceed current requirements.
Most of the apartments will be allocated to people on Cardiff’s housing waiting list, while some will be used as temporary supported accommodation for people moving on from homelessness. Dedicated on-site support staff will also help residents transition towards independent living.
The development forms part of the wider Cardiff Living programme, which aims to deliver more affordable homes across the city while regenerating underused brownfield sites.
Cardiff Council said the combination of housing and improved public transport infrastructure would help strengthen local connectivity and provide residents with better access to services, jobs and opportunities across the city.
