Heolddu Comprehensive School is celebrating a highly positive Estyn inspection report, which praises its inclusive community, strong relationships and effective support in helping all pupils progress.

The report highlights the caring and inclusive community where pupils feel safe, valued and well supported to succeed. Estyn commended the strong culture of positive relationships across the school, with pupils showing respect towards staff, visitors and one another, and approaching their learning with diligence. Many pupils, including those with additional learning needs, develop independence and make appropriate progress, supported by staff who have a clear understanding of individual needs and provide effective academic and pastoral care.

It also recognises the school’s strong focus on wellbeing, safeguarding and high-quality support, particularly through its Learning Pathways Centre, which helps pupils build confidence, improve attendance and re-engage positively with education. This is underpinned by purposeful leadership, with a clear and ambitious vision that is shared across the school community.

Cllr Carol Andrews, Cabinet Member for Education and Communities, commented “This excellent Estyn report is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the entire Heolddu Comprehensive School community. Their commitment to providing pupils with a positive, nurturing environment is highly commendable.”

Headteacher, Nerys Davies, added “We are delighted that the recent inspection report recognised the strong progress being made across all aspects of Ysgol Gyfun Heolddu Comprehensive School. We are especially proud that the report highlights the school’s inclusive culture, commitment to pupil wellbeing and the high-quality support provided to pupils and families. This report is the culmination of many years of hard work and commitment by staff, pupils, governors and the wider school community, whose shared dedication has helped create a supportive and ambitious environment where pupils can succeed.”
