There’s always been something a little magical about the circus arriving in town.
The sight of the Big Top rising into the skyline, colourful lorries pulling in, the smell of popcorn in the air and the buzz of excitement around the site all bring back memories from childhood. Now, Circus Extreme is back in Cardiff with its brand-new 2026 production ROCK IT OUT, and it somehow manages to blend that traditional circus magic with a much louder, faster and more modern experience.
If you’ve been to Circus Extreme before, you’ll already know the winning formula. Big stunts. Huge energy. The Globe of Death. The Wheel of Death. High-flying acrobatics. And, of course, the starring clown helping keep the audience entertained between the chaos.
But this year feels different.

The biggest change is the new rock music theme running throughout the show. Circus Extreme has gone all in on turning the production into more of a live entertainment spectacle, complete with a live rock band, dancers and musical performances linking together the various acts. It gives the show a fresh identity and adds a much more immersive atmosphere compared to previous years.

There’s also a major change for returning fans. Henry, the long-running “Prince of Clowns”, is no longer part of the show. Replacing someone so closely associated with Circus Extreme was never going to be easy, but Clown Katito does a brilliant job stepping into the spotlight. He’s energetic, chaotic in all the right ways and quickly wins over both children and adults alike. Any doubts disappear pretty quickly once the show gets going.
As for the acts themselves, the line-up is packed with standout moments.

Lucky Hell’s aerial sword swallowing routine is genuinely jaw-dropping. Suspended high above the stage on aerial straps while swallowing real stainless steel swords, it’s one of those performances where the entire tent seems to hold its breath.

The Skating Rodys bring incredible speed and precision with their roller skating act, including the now-famous neck spin which had the audience wincing and applauding in equal measure.

The Didyk Troupe’s Double Ukrainian Swing performance is another highlight, launching performers through the air with flips, twists and perfectly timed catches that feel almost impossible to pull off live.

Returning favourite Laura Miller once again delivers one of the most visually impressive moments of the show with her aquatic aerial hoop performance, blending fire, water and aerial artistry into something that feels more theatrical than circus.

Then there’s Marlon Skywalker’s trapeze act, which is simply nerve-shredding. Watching him balance and perform high above the ring leaves you permanently on edge.

And of course, no Circus Extreme show would be complete without the engines roaring into life. The Globe of Death remains one of the loudest and most adrenaline-filled moments of the night as stunt riders race around inside the steel sphere at unbelievable speeds.

What really makes ROCK IT OUT stand apart though is the pacing. The musical performances and rock concert atmosphere help connect everything together far better than previous productions. Rather than feeling like separate acts stitched together, this year’s show flows more naturally and keeps the energy levels high throughout. At times it almost feels more like a theatrical rock show than a traditional circus.

Overall, Circus Extreme 2026 delivers exactly what you want from a modern circus experience. There are thrills, stunts, music, comedy, fire, engines and moments that genuinely leave the audience stunned. It keeps the core ingredients people love while giving the show a fresh new edge for 2026.
Yes, longtime fans will still miss Henry. But with the new acts, rock soundtrack and fresh production style, there’s more than enough here to keep audiences entertained from start to finish.
