The Community Asset Transfer (CAT) proposal for Crosskeys Bowls Green, Waunfawr Park, and its associated grounds is set to progress following Cabinet approval.
Crosskeys Welfare Bowls Club, a long-established, volunteer-run sports club which has operated from Waunfawr Park for many years, is set to manage the bowling green to ensure continued use of the facility and to support the wider community, wellbeing and recreational activity.
Community Asset Transfer empowers local organisations to manage community facilities, protecting valued services and opening access to external funding opportunities. The approved proposal demonstrates strong plans for sustainable management, improved accessibility, and increased community use.
As part of the transfer, the club aims to: Promote and grow the amateur sport of bowls locally, provide beginner and taster sessions, engage with schools and community groups, deliver wellbeing-focused activities, offer potential “Warm Space” provision, host coffee mornings and adult learning sessions, Introduce environmental initiatives, including planting schemes and biodiversity activities, and explore future sustainability measures such as solar energy.
The Council will continue to provide ongoing support to ensure the long-term success of the project. Dedicated CAT officers will offer guidance on governance, funding, volunteer management, and day-to-day operations, alongside support to meet legal and compliance requirements.
