The Royal Welsh Agricultural Society has announced that The King’s Troop Royal Horse Artillery will no longer be performing at this year’s Royal Welsh Show following the tragic death of one of its soldiers.
In a statement, the Society confirmed it had released The King’s Troop Royal Horse Artillery from its commitment to perform the popular Musical Drive display at the 2026 event.
The decision follows the passing of Lance Bombardier Ciara Sullivan.
The Society said: “The Royal Welsh Agricultural Society regrets to announce that The King’s Troop Royal Horse Artillery will not be performing at this year’s Royal Welsh Show.
“Following the tragic passing of Lance Bombardier Ciara Sullivan, the Society has released The King’s Troop Royal Horse Artillery from their commitment to perform the Musical Drive at this year’s Show.
“The Society sends its most sincere sympathies and condolences to the family of Lance Bombardier Ciara Sullivan, her friends, and all her fellow soldiers during this incredibly difficult time.”
While expressing disappointment that the display team will not be attending this year’s event, organisers said they fully understood the circumstances and hoped to welcome The King’s Troop Royal Horse Artillery back to Llanelwedd in the near future.
Despite the change to the programme, visitors can still look forward to a packed schedule of attractions at this year’s Royal Welsh Show.
Main ring entertainment will include the Paul Hannam Quad Bike Stunt Show, the Shetland Pony Grand National, the RAF Falcons Parachute Team on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, weather permitting, Hawkeye Falconry UK, Meirion Owen and the Quack Pack, the Regimental Band of the Royal Welsh, and a special Wales YFC display marking the organisation’s 90th anniversary on the opening day of the show.
The attractions will sit alongside the event’s renowned livestock and equine competitions, which continue to draw competitors and visitors from across the UK.
With only a few weeks remaining until the event, organisers say they are looking forward to welcoming thousands of visitors back to Llanelwedd for another Royal Welsh Show.
