Motorists travelling through Cardiff are being urged to plan ahead after Traffic Wales confirmed that lane closures on the A470 will remain in place for several more days following a recent lorry collision.
Lane two remains closed in both directions while repair work continues, with delays expected on one of the capital’s busiest routes.
The warning comes ahead of a concert at Cardiff Castle on Thursday (9 July), with higher than normal traffic levels expected across the city.
Traffic Wales is advising anyone travelling in or around Cardiff to allow extra time for their journey, consider alternative routes where possible, or avoid the area if they can.
In a statement, Traffic Wales said:
“Following the recent lorry collision on the A470, lane 2 remains closed in both directions and is expected to remain closed for several days while repairs continue.
“We are aware there is a concert taking place at Cardiff Castle tomorrow (09/07), and higher than normal traffic levels are expected in the area.
“If you’re travelling in or around Cardiff, please plan your journey in advance, allow extra time for your trip and, where possible, consider alternative routes or avoid the area.
“Thank you for your patience while repairs continue.”
Concerts at Cardiff Castle regularly lead to increased traffic and temporary road closures in the city centre, adding to pressure on the surrounding road network.
Drivers are encouraged to check the latest traffic updates before setting off and allow additional time, particularly during the evening peak.
