An historic property in Cardiff’s Roath Park, once occupied by members of the renowned Pettigrew family who helped shape many of the city’s parks and green spaces, is now available to lease.

Roath Park House forms part of the Roath Park Trust and Cardiff Council, acting as the charity’s sole trustee, is inviting expressions of interest from individuals, businesses and organisations interested in bringing the property back into use for community, recreation, leisure or wellbeing purposes.

Located within the Roath Pleasure Gardens, the two storey property was built in 1897 as the residence of the Parks Superintendent, William Wallace Pettigrew, who managed the early development of Roath Park.

Recently refurbished, the 1,220 sq ft property also benefits from extensive outdoor space.

Roath Park House stands on land conveyed to Cardiff Council by the Marquess of Bute in 1889. The land is held in charitable trust for public recreation and pleasure grounds.

Following approval earlier this year, expressions of interest are now being sought, with a closing date of August 28, 2026.

Once submissions have been received, they will be evaluated before being subject to a period of public engagement. A recommendation on the future use of the property will then be considered by the Trusts Committee of Cabinet, before an application is made to the Charity Commission, which will make the final decision.

The Trusts Committee of Cabinet was established under new governance arrangements to ensure a clear separation between Cardiff Council’s role as trustee of the Roath Park Trust and its statutory functions, while managing any potential conflicts of interest in line with Charity Commission guidance.

Roath Park House is being marketed on behalf of the Roath Park Trust by Cooke & Arkwright.

Expressions of interest close on August 28, 2026.
