A teenage boy from Cardiff has been praised by South Wales Police after handing in a bag containing a significant amount of money that he found while walking home from school.
The youngster discovered the bag in the Canton area and first checked with people nearby to see if it belonged to anyone who may have dropped it.
When no owner could be found, he contacted South Wales Police to report the discovery and took the bag home so officers could collect it.
The force has publicly thanked the teenager for his actions, describing them as an example of honesty and integrity.
In a statement, South Wales Police said: “Thank you to the Good Samaritan teenage boy who, on his way home from school in the Canton area found a bag with a significant amount of money inside.
“After checking it didn’t belong to any passers by who may have dropped it, he called us to inform us of the loss and took it home for officers to collect.
“We again want to take a moment to recognise and thank the young boy for his honesty and integrity.”
The money has now been placed in police lost property while officers try to trace its rightful owner.
