Construction of the new £23 million Plasyfelin Primary School is progressing at pace, with key milestones now achieved as the flagship development moves towards its expected completion in March 2027.
The project, which is being delivered by BAM Construction Ltd, is already bringing significant benefits to the local community during the construction phase.
More than £3 million has so far been spent with local supply chain businesses, while 21 people from Caerphilly have been employed on site. The project has also supported 95 weeks of apprentice training.
Once complete, the new state of the art school will accommodate up to 420 pupils and feature enhanced nursery provision, integrated childcare facilities and additional sporting facilities for use by both the school and the wider community.
The school is also set to become Caerphilly Council’s first net zero school.
Beyond the construction work itself, the development has also delivered wider community benefits. A total of 173 hours has been dedicated to school engagement activities, work experience placements have been provided, and sponsorship has been secured for the BAM STEM Space within the new school.

Not only will it provide a modern, sustainable learning environment for pupils, but it is already making a positive difference to the local community in its social value achievements.”

Projects of this scale require strong partnership working, and it’s encouraging to see the development continuing to move forward on schedule. This is an important investment for the area and I look forward to seeing the school continue to take shape over the coming months as we work towards its completion in 2027.”
The project is being jointly funded by Caerphilly Council and the Welsh Government through the Sustainable Communities for Learning Programme.
