Award-winning Cardiff bakery Pettigrew Bakeries will open its new 5,500 sq ft “Breadquarters” in Penylan on Bank Holiday Monday, August 31.
The new site, at Design Quarter on Colchester Avenue, represents the family-run bakery’s largest expansion to date.
It will bring Pettigrew’s previously separate bakery production operations together under one roof while also offering a bakery café and shop for customers.
A theatre-style window will allow visitors to look directly into the working bakery and see products being made.

Customers will be able to buy Pettigrew favourites including handmade sourdough bread, pastries, Welsh cakes and seasonal specials. Coffee and food to eat at the café will also be available.
The opening follows the bakery’s tenth anniversary and its recognition as Craft Bakery Business of the Year at the UK Baking Industry Awards in 2024.
Pettigrew Bakeries now employs more than 50 people and supplies its shops in Cardiff, Cardiff Farmers Markets and independent wholesale customers across the city.
The new Breadquarters is being opened in addition to Pettigrew’s existing Cardiff locations, which will all remain open.
Pettigrew Bakeries Breadquarters will be based at 5 Design Quarter, 145 Colchester Avenue, Penylan, Cardiff, CF23 9XE.
Further information about opening times and what visitors can expect will be announced through Pettigrew Bakeries’ social media channels.
