Cardiff-based FleetEV and sister company PLUG Charging have launched a new end-to-end fleet electrification service designed to help organisations identify which vehicles in their fleets are suitable to switch to electric, and crucially, which should.
The new platform, called Switch, analyses individual vehicles based on how they are used, helping fleet operators build an evidence-led electrification plan rather than relying on assumptions or applying the same approach across an entire fleet.
Switch works with telematics data that organisations are already collecting, avoiding the need for a separate data-gathering exercise. It uses information including daily mileage, duty cycles, dwell times and usage patterns to build a vehicle-level view of EV readiness.
Fleet managers can otherwise be forced to make long-term vehicle and infrastructure decisions using fleet averages, incomplete records or assumptions that do not reflect how individual vehicles operate. This can result in unsuitable vehicles being electrified, viable vehicles being overlooked or charging infrastructure being installed too early or too late.
Switch identifies vehicles that are suitable to move to electric now, those where a switch should be considered later, and those where remaining with the existing vehicle or fuel type may currently be the most practical option.
The platform then models suitable electric replacements and provides whole-life and running cost comparisons, alongside potential operating cost savings and reductions in CO2 emissions.
Where vehicles are ready to switch, FleetEV can support their procurement and supply, while PLUG Charging can design, install and operate the charging infrastructure required. Together, the sister companies provide one coordinated service from initial fleet analysis through to vehicles on the road and charge points in operation.
The same telematics data is used to assess where vehicles stop, how long they remain there and the likely mix of home, workplace and public charging. This helps organisations match infrastructure investment to the actual needs and timing of their fleet transition.
FleetEV says the approach is particularly important for organisations operating mixed fleets, where cars, vans and specialist vehicles can have significantly different operational requirements.
Jarrad Morris, Founder and CEO of FleetEV, said: “Fleet managers are being asked to make major decisions about vehicles and charging, but the information available to them is not always reliable or detailed enough. Decisions based on averages and assumptions can be expensive and disruptive when they do not reflect how individual vehicles are used.
“Electrification should not be about trying to convince an organisation that every vehicle needs to become electric immediately. Switch gives organisations clear evidence on which vehicles can switch now, which should switch later and, importantly, which should stay as they are for the time being.
“By combining that analysis with vehicle supply from FleetEV and charging delivery from PLUG Charging, we can support the whole transition rather than handing customers a report and leaving them to work out what happens next.”
The launch comes as the UK’s Zero Emission Vehicle Mandate continues to increase the proportion of manufacturers’ new registrations that must be zero emission. The 2026 targets are 33% for cars and 24% for vans, rising to 80% and 70% respectively by 2030.
Although the mandate applies to vehicle manufacturers rather than fleet operators, FleetEV said the changing vehicle market, alongside organisations’ own carbon targets and vehicle replacement cycles, means fleets need to prepare today for the vehicles and infrastructure they will require tomorrow.
Switch provides fleet managers with a live view of EV readiness across their organisation, allowing vehicles to be added and assessed over time. It can show the proportion of a fleet that is EV-ready, expected running cost and CO2 savings, the current fuel mix and vehicles approaching their replacement date.
For vehicles identified as suitable for electrification, organisations can compare potential electric replacements against the real duty cycle of the vehicle being replaced and build a phased transition plan around existing replacement cycles.

“Starting with existing telematics data means vehicle and infrastructure decisions can be made together. That helps avoid installing too many or too few charge points and gives fleet managers a practical roadmap they can act on.”
