A Cardiff man convicted of stealing several bicycles worth thousands of pounds has been handed a suspended prison sentence and a three-year Criminal Behaviour Order.
Ryan Marquardt, 29, from Butetown, appeared at Cardiff Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, August 20, following his conviction for multiple pedal cycle theft offences.
He was sentenced to 26 weeks in prison, suspended for 12 months, and must also complete a drug rehabilitation requirement.
South Wales Police said Marquardt stole several bicycles across the Cardiff area over a six-month period.
Under the terms of the Criminal Behaviour Order, Marquardt must not enter or remain in designated bicycle storage areas, bicycle racks, cycle compounds or similar facilities provided for parking or securing bicycles at the following locations:
- Ysgol Gyfun Gymraeg Glantaf, also known as Glantaf High School
- Bridge Road, Llandaff
- Cardiff Metropolitan University’s Llandaff Campus
- Western Avenue
- Cardiff Metropolitan University’s Plas Gwyn accommodation site
- Llantrisant Road
- Cardiff University’s Talybont halls of residence, including Talybont North, Talybont South, Talybont Court and Talybont Gate
- Trotman Dickenson Place, Excelsior Road, Bevan Place and North Road
- Cardiff University sites, including land containing the Postgraduate Centre, John Percival Building, Aberconway Building and Arts and Social Science Library
- Colum Drive
- Unite Students accommodation at Cambrian Point, Severn Point and Blackweir Lodge
- Maindy Road and Blackweir Terrace
- Hodge Hall halls of residence
- Wyeverne Road at the University of South Wales’ Treforest Campus
- Cathays High School, Crown Way
- Maindy Leisure Centre, Crown Way
- Ysgol Gyfun Gymraeg Plasmawr, Waterhall Road
He is also prohibited from riding or possessing any bicycle or pedal cycle in Cardiff city centre.
South Wales Police said: “The aim of a CBO is to prevent crime and protect the community, local workers, and members of the public from continued distress, disruption, and potential harm.
“This case demonstrates our commitment to tackling bike theft.
“Any breaches and incidents should be reported to police.”
