Vauxhall has been announced as the official vehicle partner to this year’s JDS Machinery Rali Ceredigion, with the British manufacturer supplying vehicles to help the UK’s premier rally event maintain its impressive environmental credentials.
As part of the partnership, Vauxhall will supply a fleet of 10 electrified New Astra and Grandland models for use as official safety vehicles by the Rali Ceredigion organising team. The team will travel through the stages to check safety and compliance before the rally action starts.
The vehicles will also be used across the event’s extensive operational footprint, helping officials and members of the organising team move between rally headquarters, service areas, stages and other key locations, reducing emissions compared with conventional combustion vehicles.
The partnership represents another important step in Rali Ceredigion’s ongoing award-winning sustainability journey. The event has established a reputation for leading the way in environmentally responsible motorsport and will again offset 200 tCO2e emissions this year – one of the highest carbon offsetting programmes in rallying worldwide.
Welsh driver Ioan Lloyd, an official works driver for Vauxhall in the ADAC GSE Rally Cup, will be competing in the event in a special-liveried Corsa Rally4.
His all-electric Vauxhall Mokka GSE Rally car will be on display on Aberystwyth Promenade during the event and fans can meet Ioan at the Rali Show and the autograph session on Thursday, September 3.
Charlie Jukes, Rali Ceredigion event director, said: “We are delighted to welcome Vauxhall as the official vehicle partner to Rali Ceredigion. This is a fantastic partnership between two organisations that share a commitment to innovation, motorsport and a more sustainable future.
“Rali Ceredigion covers a diverse geographical area and our organising and safety teams need reliable and efficient transport throughout the event. The introduction of Vauxhall’s electrified vehicles will help us reduce the emissions associated with our operations while continuing to deliver an event to the highest possible standards.”
Philip Douglass, Vauxhall marketing director, said: “As a British brand with a proud motorsport heritage, Vauxhall is delighted to support the UK’s premier rally event as official vehicle partner to Rali Ceredigion.
“The event’s commitment to innovation and sustainability makes it a natural fit for our growing range of electric, hybrid and plug-in hybrid models, which will help the organising team deliver the rally efficiently and responsibly.
“We’re also incredibly excited to see Welsh driver Ioan Lloyd competing on home soil, with his car sporting a bespoke livery for the Welsh rally. Ioan is doing a fantastic job representing Vauxhall in the ADAC GSE Rally Cup, behind the wheel of the all-electric Vauxhall Mokka GSE Rally car, where he currently sits second in the standings.”
Vauxhall has a strong heritage within Welsh motorsport. The Vauxhall Rally of Wales was a prominent international stage rally held in the Welsh forests, frequently serving as the opening round of the British Rally Championship during the 1990s.
