Amazon in Swansea welcomed primary school pupils to a day of educational fun at the fulfilment centre’s Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) Camp Amazon – a first for any school in Wales.

Pupils from Morriston Primary School enjoyed a morning of activities at Amazon in Swansea, which included a behind-the-scenes tour of the fulfilment centre and a STEM-based workshop that simulated a day in the life of an Amazon fulfilment centre. From organising inventory lists to stowing stock and shipping customer orders, the STEM Camp Amazon offered pupils the opportunity to learn about the inner workings of an Amazon fulfilment centre and the rewarding career opportunities that STEM subjects can help to deliver.

Speaking on the activity, Chris Law, Site Leader at Amazon in Swansea, said:

“Amazon is dedicated to inspiring the next generation of STEM leaders, which is why we love welcoming young, bright minds to our facilities and teaching them how we innovate for our customers.

“The STEM Camp Amazon was created so students can see the wide range of possibilities a future career in this field has to offer and what skill sets are needed for success in today’s digital world. We hope the students enjoyed the visit and they feel inspired by Amazon’s continued drive for great customer service.”

Alison Thomas, Head Teacher at Morriston Primary School added:

“On behalf of the school and our students, I would like to say a huge thank you to Amazon for spearheading this activity. This was a fantastic opportunity for our students to learn and challenge themselves to apply their knowledge to real-life scenarios.

“Amazon’s STEM activity is an excellent example of the business community helping our students to ensure they have every resource needed to succeed. I am sure our students will be talking about the activities for months to come.”

Morriston Primary School participated in the STEM Camp Amazon as part of the company’s “Amazon in the Community” programme, whereby the company supports communities in and around where it operates in the UK.
