Newport City Council’s Fixing Our Roads programme is moving to Gaer Road and Whittle Drive over the next two weeks.

Residents and businesses near the works have been sent a letter with details and maps of the planned work.

Resurfacing on Gaer Road will take place overnight between 8pm and 5am on Monday 12, Tuesday 13 and Wednesday 14 October. During that time, Gaer Road and Masefield Vale will be closed from the junction of Gaer Road and Shakespeare Crescent down to the Masefield Vale junction of Shakespeare Crescent.

Access will be maintained for residents and businesses within the closure area. Pedestrian access will be available at all times.

Resurfacing on Whittle Drive will take place on Thursday 15, Friday 16, Monday 19 and Tuesday 20 October. Vehicle access to Oliphant Circle during work hours (8pm to 5am) will be as follows:

    • Thursday 15 October – via Whittle Drive and Edison Ridge
    • Friday 16 October – no vehicle access to Oliphant Circle
    • Monday 19 October – via Edison Ridge
    • Tuesday 20 October, 8pm to 11pm – via Edison Ridge
    • Tuesday 20 October, 11pm to 5am – no vehicle access to Oliphant Circle

Pedestrian access to the Whittle Drive area will be available at all times.

Bus services may be diverted from the affected routes. The council said the work is likely to generate noise and dust and asked people to allow extra time for journeys in the area.
