Wales is set for a wet and windy spell this week, with the Met Office forecasting heavy rain, strong winds and possible coastal gales following an unusually mild start to the week.
Temperatures could reach 20°C on Monday (12 October), although much of the country will experience damp and grey conditions, with spells of drizzle and fog.
According to the Met Office, foggy conditions are most likely along exposed coasts and hills, while brighter breaks could develop during the afternoon, particularly in eastern areas.
Despite the unsettled conditions, temperatures will remain very mild throughout Monday, reaching a maximum of 20°C.
However, conditions are expected to deteriorate overnight as heavier rain and stronger winds move into Wales.
Drizzly spells will continue through Monday night, before heavy rain and strong winds arrive across western and central areas by dawn on Tuesday.
The Met Office has warned that coastal gales are possible in the far west, although overnight temperatures will remain mild, with a minimum of 14°C.
Heavy rain and strong winds on Tuesday
Tuesday (13 October) will begin with wet and windy conditions as a band of heavy rain sweeps eastwards across Wales.
The rain is expected to clear to allow some sunny spells during the afternoon, although temperatures will be noticeably cooler than Monday.
A fresh, gusty breeze will follow the rain, with temperatures reaching a maximum of 17°C.
More unsettled weather expected midweek
The unsettled conditions will continue into Wednesday, with the Met Office forecasting a mixture of bright spells and scattered showers.
Strong winds are also expected, with coastal gales possible.
Conditions should become less windy on Thursday, although another band of heavy rain is forecast to move across Wales.
By Friday (16 October), the outlook is more promising, with sunnier and more settled conditions expected to develop.
The Met Office’s forecast for Wales from Monday 12 to Friday 16 October suggests a changeable week, beginning with mild temperatures before periods of heavy rain and strong winds give way to improving conditions towards the weekend.
