    A Welsh Government Minister has been in Powys this week (Monday 23 April) looking at the way technology is being used to support health and welfare in the county.

    Minister for Children and Social Care, Huw Irranca-Davies AM visited a technology enabled care flat in Llandrindod Wells before meeting senior representatives of the Powys Regional Partnership Board in the town.

    Powys County Council Leader, Councillor Rosemarie Harris said;

    “I was delighted to welcome the Minister to Powys County Council to see first-hand how technology can be used to support residents while reducing the strain on acute services.

    “The technology enabled flat provides a showcase for new technology and demonstrates how it can be used to tackle some of the issues created by living in a large rural county, through telemedicine and improved communication.

    “The use of new technology such as the home monitoring system we have seen today, enables families and carers to safely monitor the movements of someone living at home, enabling independence and assurance that all is well from a distance.

    “Using technology to link residents with acute services without leaving their homes offers huge opportunities for both the individual and health and care services. This is a joint project with Powys Teaching Health Board, and a digital milestone for our joint Health and Care Strategy for Powys.”

    After visiting the TEC flat the minister attended a meeting of the Powys Regional Partnership Board, made up of key public sector bodies including Powys County Council, Powys Teaching Health Board, Powys Association of Voluntary Organisation and service user representatives.
