    Cardiff 5K – Route, road closures and timings

    Cardiff 5K’s Race for Victory is back for 2018; a unique running event which takes place in Whitchurch Village, a leafy suburb of Cardiff.

    The race is in its third-year and will take place today (Sunday May 6th 2018.

    Registration is open from 9am at race HQ on Merthyr Road, Whitchurch

    The 2018 race will also incorporate the Welsh 5km Road Running Championships, which will be timed and official results will be posted.

    What makes the Cardiff 5K so special is its unique village setting and the people – the runners, those involved to make the day such a success, and the families and friends that come out to cheer everyone on.

    Although runners come far and wide to race, they all come together to create a spectacular community and carnival-like atmosphere.

    When does the race start?

    The running race will start at approximately at 7pm this evening on Merthyr Road.

    What road closures are in place?

    To ensure the safety of competitors / marshals and the public, Cardiff 5K will be implementing a temporary rolling road closure for a short period of time between 6:00pm and 8:00pm, mainly to the anticlockwise side of the road route.

    All the road closures will be controlled and managed by the Cardiff City Council Traffic Management Team.

    • Merthyr Rd – START
    • Penlline Rd
    • Kelston Rd
    • Heol Don
    • Station Rd
    • Gabalfa Ave
    • College Rd
    • Merthyr Rd
    • Bishops Rd
    • Bishops Place
    • Church Rd
    • Merthyr Rd – FINISH

    The road will reopen as soon as the last participant passes each point and as it is safe to do so.

    What about local bus diversions?

    There are a number of road closures in the area at different times of the day, with local bus services being diverted:

    • Diversions between 15:00 to 18:30 and then again from 20:30 to last bus
    • Diversions between 18:30 and 20:30

    Bus routes effected: 21, 23, 24, 25 & 64.

    Stagecoach diversions 

    Stagecoach buses will divert between The Hollybush Inn and The Philog and operate along Manor Way /Pantmawr Road.

    This will apply from 14:30 hours for the rest of the day.
