Innovative housing projects will continue in Monmouthshire, following today’s Welsh Government announcement, that Monmouthshire Housing Association (MHA) has been awarded funding through the Innovative Housing Programme.

Following the announcement from the Housing and Local Government Minister Julie James, of a £30m investment to build over 600 new homes in Wales. MHA will develop two further innovative housing sites in Chepstow once again working in partnership with the Welsh School of Architecture (WSoA).

The 17 homes will be built by MHA to offer flexible, sustainable living for people looking to downsize and first time occupiers. And come after the success of two previous innovative housing projects in Caldicot and Abergavenny. These four one bedroom mews style homes and four courtyard bungalows were built specifically for under 35’s who moving into their own home for the first time and  older persons looking to downsize without compromising space.

John Keegan, Chief Executive of Monmouthshire Housing Association said: “Monmouthshire Housing Association is delighted to once again have the opportunity to continue to develop our new innovative start up and downsizing offer to people within the county”.

“The Welsh Government have seen the potential for our designs which have been developed with the Cardiff School of Architecture. We expect that once the new development has been completed we will have a design that can be copied,  built quickly and either rented or sold at rates people can afford long into the future. Essentially we are creating the future of housing today, in Monmouthshire”.

Now that funding has been announced, MHA will be consulting with the local residents about the design of the developments and chow the community will benefit.
