A Cardiff company got its hands well and truly dirty last week, shipping 5,000 tonnes of soil into the Principality Stadium for one of the capital’s most popular events of 2018.
Saturday evening saw the highly popular Monster Jam live show arrive at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium, as the home of Welsh sport was turned into a methanol fuelled bonanza of gravity defying stunts – and the transformation required an awful lot of dirt.
While the exploits of the trucks’ fearless drivers stole the show, the thorough operational planning activities that have been months in the making played a critical role in the evening going off without a hitch.
Neal Soil Suppliers of Rumney was tasked with transforming the Principality Stadium into an arena fit to host the likes of Grave Digger, Max-D, El Toro Loco, delivering and then removing 5,000 tonnes of soil to and from the stadium.
The complexity of delivering such a vital infrastructure activity required significant logistical fire-power, as a fleet of 22 tipper trucks descended upon the arena – accompanied by a supporting cast of road sweepers, excavators and loading shovels.
The soil was delivered to the stadium on the Wednesday and Thursday, where specialist teams then laid the track and developed huge ramps for the monster trucks to race around and perform death defying back-flips.

“The tight nature of the schedule resulted in an early start on Sunday morning for the Neal Soils Team to ensure that all of the soil was removed from the stadium by 3pm.

Monster Jam is a live motorsport event and television show operated by Feld Entertainment. A division of the United States Hot Rod Association, the highly-popular live show is in the midst of an extended tour visiting multiple major cities across the United Kingdom.
